Abstract:
Pneumonia is an infectious pathology that compromises the amount of oxygen found in
the body, this condition is high risk not only for adults but for children becoming fatal in
paediatric patients if not treated in time and with the corresponding treatment. In recent years
worldwide and in Ecuador there has been an increase in cases of morbidity and mortality caused
by pneumonia considerably affecting children and adolescents. According to the statistics of the
Ministry of Health of Ecuador in the years 2020 2021, 89.339 cases of community acquired
pneumonia were reported, this being a factor of great importance due to its level of incidence and
for the year 2022 a decrease in cases reaching 42.174, being surpassed by COVID 19 which is
also another respiratory disease so it has been necessary to carry out a study and follow up to
determine details and peculiarities about the pathology.
The objective of this research is to analyse, investigate, provide information and
knowledge that are useful to the community that is prepared or interested in issues related to the
field of health, achieving all this with the support of a network of bibliographic research on the
subject, analysis of medical histories that meet the parameters raised, that is, they belong to the
age group of paediatric patients hospitalised in the ICU of the Hospital Inglés during the period of October 2022 to April 2023.

La neumonía es una patología infecciosa que compromete la cantidad de Oxígeno que se
encuentra en el cuerpo, esta afección es de alto riesgo no solo para adultos sino para niños
volviéndose mortal en pacientes pediátricos si no es tratado a tiempo y con el tratamiento
correspondiente. En los últimos años a nivel mundial y en Ecuador se ha visto un incremento en
casos de morbimortalidad producido por la Neumonía afectando considerablemente a los
niños/as y adolescentes. Según las estadísticas del Ministerio de Salud del Ecuador en los años
del 2020 – 2021 se reportó 89.339 casos de neumonía adquirida en la comunidad siendo este un
factor de gran importancia por su nivel de incidencia y para el año 2022 una disminución de
casos llegando a los 42.174, siendo superados por el COVID 19 que también es otra enfermedad
respiratoria por lo que se ha visto necesario realizar un estudio y seguimiento para determinar
detalles y peculiaridades sobre la patología.
El objetivo de esta investigación es analizar, indagar, brindar información y
conocimientos que sean útiles a la comunidad que se prepara o tiene interés en temas
relacionados al ámbito de la salud, alcanzando todo esto con el apoyo de una red de
investigación bibliográfica sobre el tema, análisis de historias clínicas que cumplen con los
parámetros planteados, es decir que pertenezcan al grupo de edad de pacientes pediátricos
hospitalizados en UCI del Hospital Inglés durante el periodo de Octubre 2022 a Abril 2023
